The device you watch on matters as much as the service. Here is how the common choices compare, and which one we recommend for most people.

The short answer

For most people, a 4K streaming stick on Fire TV or Google TV is the best mix of price, speed and app choice. If you already own a recent smart TV, try its built-in app store first; if the experience is slow, add a stick.

Amazon Firestick and Fire TV

Why it works: cheap, plugs straight into HDMI, and installs almost any Android IPTV app, including our own, through the free Downloader app. The 4K models have enough memory to handle large channel lists.

Watch out for: the cheapest, older models can feel slow with big lists, and Wi-Fi is weak behind a TV. An Ethernet adapter helps a lot. See our Firestick setup guide.

Android TV and Google TV boxes

Why it works: the same app choice as Firestick, often with more storage, more memory and a built-in Ethernet port. Very smooth for 4K.

Watch out for: unbranded boxes with no software updates. Stick to well-known brands. Guide: Android TV & Google TV.

Samsung and LG smart TVs

Why it works: nothing extra to buy or plug in.

Watch out for: these TVs run their own systems (Tizen and webOS), so Android apps do not install. You choose from IPTV players in the TV's store, some of which charge a one-time activation fee to their developer. Built-in Wi-Fi is often slower than a stick's. Guide: Samsung & LG.

Apple TV, iPhone and iPad

Why it works: fast hardware and polished App Store players. Using your iPhone as the keyboard makes logging in quick.

Watch out for: the RX app is Android-only, so you use a third-party player with the same login. Guide: Apple devices.

MAG boxes

Why it works: a dedicated box that boots straight into TV, which suits viewers who do not want apps.

Watch out for: the box's MAC address has to be linked to your account, and if you replace the box you need to send the new one. Guide: MAG box.

Three questions to decide

  1. Is your TV less than three years old? Try its app store first. If it is older, a stick will feel much faster.
  2. Is the router far from the TV? Choose a device with Ethernet, or add an adapter.
  3. Do you want the RX app itself? Choose Fire TV or Android TV.

Whatever you choose, the same RX IPTV plan works on every device, and a multi-device plan lets different TVs in the house use different devices at the same time.
